VENTILATION: THE KEY ISSUES

Air quality and temperature within manufacturing facilities are key issues across a wide range of industries.

DELTA NEU’s industrial ventilation systems are designed to improve working environments in food processing, can making, tissue paper production and the corrugated board industry. Our ventilation systems are used to combat excess heat and humidity, as well as to remove fumes, oil mist and odours.

Steam emissions from production processes can lead to excess heat and water vapour within many manufacturing plants. Effective ventilation and cooling improves air quality by preventing the build-up of condensation, bacteria, dust and airborne contaminants. It can also help to improve product quality and working conditions.

In a tissue paper mill, significant amounts of moisture are released during the manufacturing process. This often manifests itself in the building as surface condensation, which can cause material corrosion, floor safety hazards, product quality problems or in cold weather, internal fogging.

VENTILATION: OUR SOLUTIONS

DELTA NEU Extractair roof ventilation units remove hot or contaminated air from large manufacturing facilities. Air extraction and exhaust points are carefully positioned near heat and condensation sources. Following this localised extraction, hot or condensate-laden air is exhausted outside the building.

Heat recovery can be incorporated in many industrial ventilation systems. Waste heat can be reclaimed from processing areas, electrical equipment and compressors, providing low cost, environmentally conscious heating of the input air used to compensate and balance the exhausted air.

CASE STUDY: SCA HYGIENE

SCA Hygiene is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of tissue, personal care and sustainable timber products. The firm is one of the UK leaders in household tissue, with six manufacturing sites in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

The SCA Chesterfield Mill specialises in paper making and was recently looking to reduce condensation in the mill. The paper production process was generating a significant amount of steam and water vapour, with condensation forming on cold surfaces and fogging.

DELTA NEU designed a bespoke energy saving ventilation system for SCA. Our solution involved the extraction of humid air along the roof of the production hall using our Extractair ventilation units, modified to suit the particularly harsh working environment. This was coupled with an equal volume of input air containing recycled heat from various sources.

Ever environmentally conscious SCA installed a heat exchanger to recycle heat from the paper process, providing one source of heat for the input air. Further waste heat was captured from existing sources within the factory, including compressors, warm process areas and pre-used hot water from paper production machinery.

Our ventilation system addressed the condensation issues at SCA Chesterfield Mill, boosting ventilation and reducing humidity. This has greatly improved air quality and the general working environment for SCA staff.
