Dust Control Design - Hood Design

The effectiveness of any dust control system depends greatly on the concept of hood design. The more enclosed the dust source or the closer the capture hood to the emission, the lower the airflow required, thus allowing a smaller system to be installed. In any system, we undertake all the calculations to assure you of effective capture or containment and a better designed system. A few key design points on the capture include:

  • Hood position: if the distance between the emission point and hood doubles then the volume increases by four.
  • Enclosing the dust source will always require less air than a capture hood.
  • Adding a flange to the face of a capture hood improves the performance.
